Stress gets a lot of bad publicity as can cause us lots of problems. Stress can be good at certain times; it can help us to deal with particularly difficult situations, when the normal stress reaction (AKA The fight or flight response) kicks in to protect us from impending dangers, i.e. when we need to run from a dog attacking us, it is the stress response (adrenaline surge) in our bodies that helps us to run and get out of the immediate danger.
Stress poses problems for us when the stress response is being called on too often, and without a chance to recover from the previous response.
